Inspired by #IconicFishes – Seahorse poem by Chris McCabe

The creativity behind our global arts movement, Inspired by #IconicFishes, continues to grow! We’re delighted to introduce artist and poet Chris McCabe, and share his evocative seahorse poem.

Inspired by the seahorse’s extraordinary traits from male pregnancy and mate fidelity to their slow way of life, Chris invites us to pause, slow down, and let things unfold at their own pace.

Chris is the founder of Not Dead Yet Poets, a community in Da Nang, Viet Nam, that brings people together through readings, workshops and collaborative writing. His current project, Animal Imperatives, is an ongoing series of watercolour paintings and poems that explore what we might learn if we took the time to listen to creatures that are often overlooked.

Drawing inspiration from both natural and built environments, Chris’s work encourages empathy and connection with species that rarely feature in conservation narratives, giving small and often overlooked organisms like our iconic fishes the spotlight they deserve.
