#ThrowbackThursday – Global extinction risk for seahorses, pipefishes and their near relatives (Syngnathiformes)

A comprehensive global assessment of 300 syngnathiform fishes provides the first broad picture of extinction risk for seahorses, pipefishes, and their relatives.

This #ThrowbackThursday study shows that while most species are currently assessed as Least Concern, a significant number are threatened or Data Deficient, indicating that uncertainty remains around the full extent of risk. The assessment identifies fishing pressure and habitat degradation as key drivers of decline in vulnerable species.
