#ThrowbackThursday – State of seahorse fisheries in India, nearly two decades after they were banned
In 2001, India banned the catch and trade of all seahorses. Yet this week’s #ThrowbackThursday study reveals that 13 million seahorses are still caught in India every year. Because these seahorses are caught accidentally by non-selective bottom trawlers, saving them requires active gear restrictions – paper bans alone are not enough.
