iSeahorse: Saving Seahorses Together

This #CitizenScienceMonth, we are shining a spotlight on #iSeahorse, our very own citizen science project hosted on #iNaturalist ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿƒ

It is a platform where ๐Ÿคฟ divers, snorkelers, and ocean lovers like you can report #seahorse sightings to help scientists better protect these quirky fishesand the seas. Thanks to your sightings over the years, weโ€™ve learned so much more about their habitats and behaviours. Your contributions have even helped create a new marine protected area and expand another one in the Philippines!

Infographic for iSeahorse, a global citizen science project hosted on iNaturalist.org. The infographic shows a five-step flow: 1) You snap a photo of a seahorse in the wild, 2) upload it to iNaturalist with "iSeahorse" selected in the project field, 3) researchers help identify the seahorse, 4) researchers analyze the data, and 5) the knowledge supports conservation actions. Bottom section highlights impacts: over 2,900 citizen scientists, 16,000 seahorse observations which led to new findings on 35+ species, and the creation and expansion of marine protected areas (MPAs). Tagline reads, "Small fishes need big heroes like you

However, there is still so much to learn about these fishes. Soโ€ฆnext time you ๐Ÿ”Ž spot one of these little wonders underwater, ๐Ÿ“ท ย donโ€™t forget to snap a photo and ๐Ÿ’ป share your sightings with the iSeahorse Project on ๐Ÿ”— iNaturalist.org.
